Ngoma Workshop in Uganda, 1998

Ngoma (meaning drum ) workshop on the banks of Lake Victoria.

We stayed in a leper colony at a Catholic mission station. We ate a lot of bananas and little fish.

Artists from various countries, east and west and from Africa gathered to share experiences.

Simplifying, shedding, living in the hour, by the hour, on the earth and working with diligence like the fishermen from surrounding villages, the pace contributing to my practise. Conversations and silences built friendships that hover so many years later.

I will begin new work from the drawings I made in the village, all those years ago but fresh in my minds eye.
